Wonderful extremely rare vintage 1st edition copy of Negro Legislators of Texas by J. Mason Brewer. Published in 1935 by the Mathis Publishing Company of Dallas, Texas. The hardcover book is in very good condition for its age, with very minimal wear to the cover and edges. There are a few pages (two locations - both pictured) with some staining due to vintage newspaper clippings that were paced into the book by a previous owner - these vintage newspaper clippings, which are relevant to the contents of the book have been removed, placed into plastic sleeves, and will be included in the sale (see photos).
This is a unique opportunity to own a copy of this exceptional book about African Americans serving in the Texas Legislature during the Reconstruction period. This is likely the only copy of this book in this condition to have come to market in the 2020's.
