Wonderful signed copy of A Man Without Breath by Philip Kerr, a Bernie Gunther novel set in 1943, when the Berlin detective is sent to Smolensk to investigate a mass grave of Polish officers in the Katyn forest. The back cover carries Kerr's portrait and the Chicago Tribune on his gift for historical fiction: "history is wasted on historians. It ought to be the exclusive property of novelists, but only if they are as clever and knowledgeable as Philip Kerr." Published in 2013 by G. P. Putnam's Sons of New York. A Marian Wood Book. First printing, with the number line 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2. ISBN 978-0-399-16079-0.
This copy appears hand-signed by Philip Kerr on the title page, dated April 18th 2013, the month of publication. (Three of the photos show this same signed page at increasing closeness, ending with a tight view of the signature.) The book is in very good condition. The quarter-bound blue-and-black boards are clean, the spine is straight, and the dust jacket is in very good condition, clean and bright with only the lightest edge wear.
